What is really driving this “open carry” gun movement? The mere threat that the Obama administration may infringe upon 2nd Amendment rights? Or is it something else? Are people becoming more insecure with this bad economy? Is it because of the increasing reports of violent crimes?
Protests with people openly carrying firearms remind me of the Black Panthers back in the day. Their reasons? Protection. A sense of empowerment. A sign to the world they were ready to fight for their rights. Africans-Americans in those turbulent days had a lot of legitimate reasons to band together against an establishment that did not treat them equally.
I suspect there’s a sense of fear out there that is motivating people to purchase, or openly carry, firearms. Fear is the driving factor behind the gun sales surge in the last two years. Naked fear. Of what?
Why do you think people are buying firearms and ammunition at record rates and openly wearing guns?
FROM THE SCAVENGER:
“In a report highlighting the "open carry" gun movement, KTVU's Lloyd LaCuesta interviewed locals who are hanging out in public, packing heat and exerting their Second Amendment right for all the world to see.
Advocates across the country are picnicking together, going to zoos, going to church and picking up trash. Most notably, supporters protested Obama this past summer. In the Bay area, David Julian, 27, and others are hanging out at a Cupertino Starbucks, sipping their Venti coffees with guns holstered to their hips.”
