After years of surprising
scientists with their cleverness
and smarts, some octopuses
appear to also use tools.
Veined octopuses observed off the coast of Indonesia carried coconut shell halves under their bodies, and assembled them as necessary into shelters — something that wasn’t supposed to be possible in their corner of the animal kingdom.

I saw this story too and was surprised at the way the octopus could make its arms stiff like legs with knees that bend. These animals are smart and it's only due to their lack of real bones that has kept them confined to the water. Fish with bones could evolve legs and feet but without bone structure invertebrates couldn't handle the weight in open air. Insects with chitonous exoskeletons are luckily stopped from becoming big giants for the same reason.
