Calif. beaches closed after report of deadly shark attack

Local TV station says victim 'had his leg bitten off'

“Officials closed three beaches in California on Friday after an apparent deadly shark attack, local media reported.

Officials at Vandenberg Air Force Base closed Surf, Wall and Minuteman beaches for at least 72 hours, Lt. Ann Blodzinski told the Santa Barbara Independent.

KCLU radio said the attack took place Friday morning at Surf Beach in Santa Barbara County, just north of Los Angeles County.

Authorities won't release details but a source told KEYT-TV the victim "had his leg bitten off and lost too much blood."

A coroner's investigator was called to the scene, the station reported.”
